THE MAIN THING YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Tallow can simply be used in replacement of any other fat you're using in cooking like olive oil, vegetable oil, avocado oil, butter, bacon grease, etc. Replace it one for one in any recipe.
COOKING BENEFITS OF TALLOW
- It has a high smoke point of 400°F which means it's great for things like frying
- It adds a mild, beefy flavor that elevate your dishes
- It's soft, creamy texture gives a similar mouth feel to butter
HOW WE USE IT
- Sautéing or stir-frying vegetables
- Cooking eggs
- Making any potato dish
- Frying food like fish & chips
- Searing steaks
- Baking savory pies
- Braising roasts
- Seasoning our cast iron pans and Blackstone
- Blending with venison
Essentially, any savory meal we were using a plant or seed oil for we've replaced with tallow. For sweets like cakes and fruit pies, we recommend using lard because it's softer and milder in flavor.
WHAT ABOUT SKINCARE?
YES! Tallow skincare and beauty products are trending right now. We partner with Mossycup Farms out of Clear Lake, IA to create tallow lotion, creams, cast iron seasoning, lotion sticks, and more. You can see them here.
We have many customers all across the nation who purchase our raw grass fed fat or our raw grass fed suet to make into skin care products.
